There’s an old proverb that says a picture is worth a thousand words…. With that said think of the adjectives, and verbs that a photograph may convey. Without the use of verbiage, and the Rosetta stone of human language the photograph has captured moments in time that have been etched forever in our psyche. How much of an impact can a person have on the world? I have been considering this question lately and thinking about how photography impacts the world. How do the images captured by a photographer cause change? How will the images I capture cause the world to change? As I reflect upon the images of historical events that occurred before I had the eyes to see such as the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Viet Nam war, and the Allied forces from World War II; I am reminded to look forward and reflect. As the youth of this generation mature, the images of New York City on September 11th 2001 and the aftermath in the Gulf Coast of Hurricane Katrina, will create lasting impressions that will never be forgotten and will be retrospectively learned from. Through photographs we are reminded of a simpler time but the simplicity of a picture is complex in itself. The camera is the visual time machine that depicts the essence of life. The lasting impact of the photograph is more than the preservation of a moment in time; it is the mirror of evolution and revolution. As I ponder how many words were used to convey this message I am reminded that a picture is worth a thousand words and with one image the sentiments can be aesthetically and explicitly defined. My eyes have been opened to new ways of seeing the world with a skill and an art form that I am truly passionate about.
